From your Linode, run the following:

mtr -rwzbc100 <desktop.IP.Address>

From your home computer, run the following:

In addition to those MTR reports, we can use iperf to diagnose network speed issues by measuring the maximum network throughput a server can handle. Would you mind installing iperf and running a test between your linode and your local machine?

From your Linode, run the following:

iperf -s

From your home computer, run the following:

iperf -c <IP> -d
